An Encounter With NYC Mayoral Candidate Ray McGuire and His Plan To Address Homelessness
As summer officially approaches, The Community Assignment has new plans underway to assist members of the community. While gathering essential supplies this week, our President and CEO, Ramona, had an encounter at the Flatbush Junction with 2021 New York City mayoral candidate, Ray McGuire. She took the opportunity to ask about his plan to serve the homeless members of the community if elected as the city’s next mayor.
McGuire stated that there’s not enough housing to support individuals. Under his administration, more affordable housing will be created, allowing New Yorkers to enjoy being homeowners.
With this he intends to create extra jobs by ensuring that shelters have the necessary support services in place such as mental health, job training and placement, and childcare.
McGuire noted that it’s more expensive to host people at shelters as opposed to accomodating them at hotels and assisting with affordable housing. With his new housing policy, Mcguire hopes to eliminate the overall use of homeless shelters.
With provision for the homeless being the heart of TCA’s mission, it was important to hear what this civic leader had in mind to tackle homelessness across the city. We are grateful for his time and service.
We wish the best to all candidates in the upcoming mayoral election this month, with high hopes that the chosen leader will implement the right policies to help serve the underserved in our communities.
